InnovateUs helps local company develop new innovative product

Candles

Candle de la Crème produce bespoke spa oils, home fragrances and skincare products, which they sell online.

They approached the Belfast Met to develop skills that would allow them to test products for stability, shelf life and robustness.

This would allow business owner Beverley to explore the benefits of a wide range of ingredients, develop new products, and expand the current product range.

Beverley met with Peter McPherson, Centre Manager for Applied Science at Belfast Met, who provided training in the formulation of her specific cosmetic products.

This included testing for different fats, oils and oxidation, as well as training in how to assess product stability and shelf life, enabling Beverley to test these herself at her business premises.

Sales have increased in both Northern Ireland and the UK as a result of the training, with global export opportunities in Dubai being explored.

The company are also developing a range of products for expectant mothers.

They have been approved for an Innovation Voucher to help upscale production.

And both marketing students and staff have benefited by hearing from Beverley on her Innovation journey.
